Ethical Sourcing

Ethical Sourcing

Since we incorporated in March 2020 we have aimed to work with as many small Canadian, women-run businesses as we can.  We also brought on some carefully selected big brands that you know and love.

Today we are sharing with you the results of our sourcing so far.  It’s been almost 6 months since we officially became Caribou Gifts and we now have over 100 brands available in our baskets and a la carte items.

We are proud to report that of the 100+ brands:

  • More than 80% are Canadian companies
  • More than 65% of the companies manufacture their products in Canada
  • More than 50% of the companies are women-owned
  • More than 15% of the companies are BIPOC-owned

When looking by category:

  • More than 95% of our food products are Made in Canada by Canadian companies
  • More than 95% of our personal-care products (for both men and women) are Made in Canada by Canadian companies

Our kids category has a high percentage of international products due to the nature of the large publishing houses and toy companies but we do have some amazing options that have been designed and Made in Canada including:

  • Craft/STEM kits by Kiss Naturals
  • Crazy Fort Kits
  • Anomia Card Game
  • Spark Journals
  • QforQuinn Socks and Book

We are finished sourcing new items for this calendar year; don’t worry there’s still a lot of new goodies on their way to us and we will be replenishing items that sell quickly.  After the holiday season we will be reviewing our product assortment for 2021 and we are committed to improving these numbers by focusing even more on Canadian, women-owned businesses and continuing to seek out minority-run businesses.

Thank you to all our customers, followers and cheerleaders for shopping local and supporting our vision.  We are committed to continuing to strive to provide high quality, unique products that are ethically sourced.

Note:  Our baskets, containers and packaging materials are not counted in the above statistics.  We sourced these from local Canadian companies who imported them for distribution in Canada.  This was necessary due to our rapid start.  In 2021 we will also be looking at ways to reduce our environmental impact and source the packaging we do need more locally.  We will make a specific goal about this by March 2021.
